I’m lucky enough to work for a studio that is situated Ina very interesting area full of galleries n small shops! And of cause home to a lot of designers! So they really did a great job in renovating n decorating their studio n homes!
Just want to share with you this picture I’ve taken the other of the rollers gutter of a studio n with that came the letter box! I love the idea n execution too!
I don’t normally love trying out new social networking/bookmarking tools, yet Pinterest really interest me with the nicely design interface and the quality of photos that you can find, so here a snapshot of my page so far which you can check out here:
In case you want an invitation, just drop me a comment and i can send that out!!
Free moving to Ap Lei Chau, I haven’t have the chance to visit the furniture outlet nearby, gosh it’s actually just 10 minutes walk from my home! Unbelievably close!
So I’ve just walked there for a short visit n a cup of coffee this afternoon! Only managed to stop by one shop that is the 25000 sqf showroom of TREE.
Lots of solid wood dinning tables:

Nice details for the handle of this wooden wardrobes:

Studying the design details of this cabinet, how the division works:

It’s always nice to have a cup of coffee n cupcakes while reading some magazine, once again, Hinge vol 197 feature one of the project of our studio – FAK3:

On my way home, beautiful sunset:

A very inspiring and well rested weekend!! Thanks god for that!
I am sure the idea of building a bridge over water is not anything new to you, yet i admire how the Ro-Ad architects proposed the new definition of bridge.
The concept reminds me a lot of the story in the bible where moses leads the Israelite cross the red sea where he simply parted the red sea.

Simply beautiful. Yet i am not sure whether there will be some problem when the water level changes?
In the new year of 2012, i finally get to have a few days off my work and get to travel a bit. It’s been a real relaxing trip, traveling to forest & country side for a bit of hiking, stayed in glass house homestay etc.
Yet one of the exciting thing about this trip to visiting the tea house Zenique (小茶栽堂) in Taipei.
I will post some photos in another post on the visit but one of the nice thing i got is the teapot set designed by them that was awarded with “iF Product Design Award 2012“.
It’s a clean design with 2 cups that can be stored inside the teapot so you can travel light.

It comes in 5 different texture/colour. I personally l0ve them all!!

So this is the one i finally choose – black with white dot!
Cubic package that is very nice!
Nicely designed inner box
See the 2 cup that is of different size inside the teapot? It fits perfectly into 1 thing.
Thanks Richard & Yan for sending us the green tea from seoul (osulloc)
Perfect way to enjoy a sunny afternoon at home, and finally thanks Jim for such a nice present! All filled with memories of Taiwan.
I’ve been hunting for nice teapots and teaware whenever i traveled and i think i’ve collected quite an extensive collection, will share more in this blog in the future!
I know this one of the most basic topic that any designer should talk about, what is design to them?
This is the question that i keep asking myself all the time too, yet today i would like to share with you two of my favourite designers and their view. My design is actually heavily influenced by them, not just in terms of style & ideas, but mostly how they see design.
The first one is Natao Fukasawa (深澤直人). He is so famous for designing the MUJI CD Player (my all time favourite):
Having the privilege to meet him in BODW 2009, his speech inspires me just with the topic – Design Is Inevitable!
Inevitable
You can see this umbrella design from his presentation simply explain this idea:
Natao’s other designs:
You don’t really need me to tell you that this is a banana drink! You simply know.
In fact, what he said is very similar to my another favourite designer Danny Cheng. In his new book called “One to Ten”, he wrote about his stories and i really agreed with what he said:
I am very simple and straightforward. This can be seen in my work. I don’t twist and turn and change my mind halfway through the design. Things are very black and white with me.
It’s very true! To me, making a design decision is very natural. That doesn’t mean that i am just following my instinct, but it’s that after extensive & enough research plus your experience (and maybe a bit of talent), making a design decision is not difficult at all. I find it difficult now because i am not the only one making the decision, i need to cater what my boss think. But when it’s time for me to do my own decision, it’s gonna be simple and straightforward.

I know i love danny’s design so much not because of his style or executions of projects, but the way he design things and how he gets there.
I am looking forward to the day when i can fully follow my design philosophy.
There are quite some good articles about Natao Fukasawa’s design philosophy, you can find them here:

We all love trees. Wood, paper, all from the precious trees. How about combining both?
Recently a shop in tokyo – Nishiogo Shiten opened up, selling all kinds of furniture & accessories made of “PAPERWOOD”

I simply love the interior of the shop. Clean, wooden, sophisticated, cozy & relaxing:
It can be used to make all kinds of furniture like chairs, cabinets.
