The best ramen in Hong Kong – MIST

Am never a big fan of ramen, i’d rather have a bowl of rice (as i am a 飯桶)!! Yet this restaurant really surprised me!!

Had dinner with my friend Mr. G at a ramen restaurant MIST at causeway bay last night for a bit of catch up as i’ve been soo busy with projects these days. Mr. G is a very wai sik person and he knows a lot of good restaurant, cheap and expensive. He often takes me to great restaurant but i would say this one is really the best!!!

It’s a “Creative ramen restaurant” (創作麵工房), so the chef don’t really need to “follow” any of the recipe of ramen in different parts of japan, but simply following what he thinks makes the best ramen!!

It’s located right next to the minibus stop i used to take home (no. 28) and the interior design doesn’t look like a ramen store, but more of a western restaurant more.

Colour scheme: Wine and a bit of gold.

Let’s talk about the food that amazed me soo much! We ordered:

  1. Warm “Chiba” Pork Salad (千葉縣幸福麥猪沙律)
  2. Bake Mushroom (香焗日本蘑菇)
  3. Ume Shio Rahmen (梅‧鹽味拉麵) + Egg
  4. Karamiso (辣蔥味噌拉麵) + Egg
  5. CHABUYA WHITE ALE (啤酒)

The Pork salad came first and it looks very ordinary. After tasting the pork, it’s extraordinarily good!!!!

The pork was grilled?? You can taste the aroma of some very special salt. And the piece of pork just melted in your mouth!!! Incredibly delicious! The amazing part also comes in the sauce, although it looks quite plain, it’s actually quite strong, goes very well with the pork and those vegis! The favourite dish of the night!

As a big fan of all kinds of mushrooms, i am more interested in this dish more than the ramen, when it arrived, i was quite amazed by the look of it!

They used bread crums to bake with the mushrooms, they are quite light yet absorbed the sauce and so very delicious! It’s very special!!

Finally, our main dish – ramen. I like ramen in soup with rather strong taste, so i choose the spicy miso soup whereas my friend choose the salty soup with a piece of plum.

His ramen looks a bit lighter but he said the soup is very good.

And here’s mine, i love those japanese spring onions and here’s how they descirbe it:

用少量辣椒引出日本長蔥特有的香辣味,是MIST的成功示範作。日本長蔥的特性是初切時會散發一種獨特的香辣氣味,但經熱湯蒸薰後,會漸漸在香辣蔥味中滲出甜味,配合味感較濃的味噌湯拉麵,味道轉變的過程使人猶如發現新大陸,舌頭的經歷充滿驚喜。

Besides the soup, the egg and the pork (叉燒) in the bowl is the real deal!! The egg is half done, with very strong taste of fresh eggs!! It’s really the best too!! And the叉燒 is half fat/slim, again melts in your mouth!!

This restaurants originates from tokyo situated in Omotesando Hills with long queues. So, luckily that we dont need to wait here in Hong Kong!!

This is really one of the best ramen restaurant in Hong Kong and i still cannot stop thinking about the taste of the Chiba pork. The only bad thing is that it’s really quite expensive!! So go when you have enough money in your pocket!!

Finally thanks Mr. G for treating me such a wonderful dinner!

Ashes and snow

I remembered i was once in tokyo and went to an exhibition in Odaiba which touched me a lot. It was the “Ashes and snow”  hold by the Rolex Institute where photographs shot by Canadian Photographer  Groegory Colbert were showed.

It’s the perfect illustration of the peaceful relationship bewteen human and mother nature.

There are a few different animals being photographed in series, including elephants, eagle, whales, leopord. The lines, proportions and contast yet the silence and peace.

Flying elephant:

Eagle:

Whales:

Human is almost nothing in the nature.

Here comes my favourite – Leopard!

Beautiful curves..

So peaceful…..

And finally, not sure what kind of animal is this? But looks very surreal!

It is now touring in Mexico City and if you’re interested, you can visit the official website.

The Alarm pillow, still your friend?

Have you ever thought that your pillow is always your best friend? And your alarm is always your enemy?

This pillow is definitely your worse enemy, because at night, you place your head comfortably on her but in the morning, she turns into the most horrible alarm!!!

The pillow starts vibrating when the time is up and, whether you want it or not, you’ll have to wake up and go to work. Should you decide not to wake up yet, then the weight of your own head will act as a snooze button and the Alarm Pillow will try to wake you up again.

Pretty cool way to set up the wake up time!

Hit it hardly to snooze and get 5 minutes more!!!

Enjoy!!

Office Design – An Architecture Office

I am sure i havent talked about office design in this blog, it’ relatively new and interesting to me. We all know that interior design can be divided into many different streams. Some companies are particularly good at designing specific spaces such as hotel, office.

Here’s one of them that were introduced by my interior teacher a while ago and would like to share with you here:

Yes, it’s an office for architectural firm. That’s probably also why i dream to become an architect!!

It’s half sunken into the ground in a forest, by the look on the back, am sure you couldn’t figure out what it is?

Finding the answers when you come to the front side:

The entrance is almost completely hidden!

Let’s look at the interior:

Very clever use of light by opening up half of the “covering”.

Especially love the yellow floor that gives you a illusion that the glasses are dyed to yellow!

Oh, can we go down??

Although the office interior stays the same, the exterior changes as the season changes, bringing whole new experience and feelings to people inside:

It even changes when the day goes by:
